How to write a sales follow-up message
A follow-up works when it gives the reader a reason to answer that the first message did not: a new detail, an easier question, or a clear way to say no. It fails when it only reminds them they did not reply. Paste what you sent (and their replies, if any), say where the conversation stands, and the generator writes two options: one more direct, one softer. Both are short, both end with one ask, and neither pretends you know them better than you do. Pick Email and it works as a follow-up email generator; pick Telegram, X or LinkedIn for a DM.
Follow-up examples for different situations
No reply:
Hi Sam, one more try on this. If it is not a priority right now, a quick "not now" is completely fine and I will not keep following up.
They are interested:
Great, thanks for getting back to me. The simplest next step is a short written plan for your account. Want me to send it this week?
Not the right person:
Thanks for letting me know. Who would be the right person to talk to about this?
They asked you to follow up later:
Hi Sam, you asked me to check back around now. Is this a better time to pick it up?
How to follow up without sounding pushy
- Add something. A new detail, a relevant example, or a narrower question. "Just checking in" adds nothing.
- Make no easy. "A quick not-now is fine" gets more replies than pressure does, and the replies you get are honest.
- Skip the guilt. No "I haven't heard back", no "did you see my last message", no deadlines that are not real.
- Keep the thread. Reply in the same conversation, so they can see what you said before without scrolling for it.
When to stop following up
When they say no, stop: thank them and close the conversation politely, which the generator does on its own when the conversation already contains a no. Without a reply, one or two follow-ups a few days apart is usually enough on Telegram, X and LinkedIn, and two or three in email. After that, more messages mostly cost you the chance to write again later with a better reason. The guide to what to send after no reply goes into timing.
Frequently asked questions
What should I say when someone doesn't reply?
Something new: one useful detail, a narrower question, or an easy way to say no. Avoid "just checking in" and anything that guilts them for not answering. Paste your message above and choose No response.
How long should a sales follow-up be?
Shorter than the first message: one to three sentences, with one ask. The reader already knows who you are; the follow-up only needs to give them a reason to reply now.
How many times should I follow up?
Usually one or two follow-ups on Telegram, X or LinkedIn, two or three in email, a few days apart. Stop as soon as they say no, and thank them for answering.
Can I use this for Telegram or LinkedIn?
Yes. Pick Telegram, Twitter / X, LinkedIn or email; the drafts change to fit the platform.
What if they already said no?
Then the generator does not write a follow-up. It suggests a short, polite close that respects the answer, which keeps the door open far better than another try.
