Telegram outreach works for agencies because the buyer in crypto, gaming and most founder-led companies reads Telegram and ignores email, and because the inbox there is not yet full. The trade is that first contact is judged on your profile before your message, and the platform has no tolerance at all for anything that looks like a broadcast.
This is the channel our own engine sends on, so most of what follows is what we learned running it rather than what is generally said about it.
When Telegram is the right channel
Telegram beats email when your buyer is a founder or a marketing lead at a company whose whole team already lives there. In practice that means crypto and web3, gaming, creator and community businesses, and a good share of early-stage startups outside the enterprise world.
It is the wrong channel for enterprise B2B, for regulated industries, and for anyone whose job title ends in officer at a company with more than a few hundred staff. Those people are reachable by email and by nothing else, and a Telegram message to them reads as a boundary violation.
Why the inbox is emptier
Not because nobody has thought of it. Because finding the right person's account is genuinely hard, and the difficulty has kept the channel uncrowded. An email address follows a pattern you can guess. A Telegram handle does not, and there is no directory.
That difficulty is the moat, and it is also the reason the tools in this space sell scraping and volume: those are the easy parts to automate. The hard part is being sure the account you found is the person you meant.
The profile does the qualifying
On email your message arrives as text. On Telegram the recipient sees your name, your photo and your bio before they decide whether to open it, and most of the decision happens there.
What a sending account needs, and all of it takes an hour:
- A real photo of a person. Not a logo. A logo in a Telegram DM reads as a company account, and company accounts are what people mute.
- A username that is a name. Not the agency name with numbers after it.
- A bio that says what you do in one line, with the agency named and a link.
- An account that is not brand new. Age is visible in ways users can read.
How first contact differs from email
Three differences that change how the message is written.
It is shorter. Telegram is a chat surface and a five-paragraph message in it looks absurd in a way the same text in an inbox does not. Three or four lines.
There is no subject line, so the first sentence does that job and cannot be a greeting. "Hi, hope you are well" spends your only sentence on nothing.
The reply is instant or never. Email gets answered days later. A Telegram message that is not answered within a day or so is generally not going to be, which makes the channel fast to learn from.
Hello! My name is Alex and I am the founder of a marketing agency specialising in web3 growth. We have worked with over 30 projects. Are you currently looking for marketing support?
your last four posts got under five replies each and you have got 60k followers, which usually means the posts are landing when your audience is asleep. Want me to send what the timing looks like?
The first is a company introducing itself. The second is a person who looked. On a surface where the reply happens in the first ten seconds, only one of those survives.
What gets an account reported
Telegram acts on reports, and its restrictions bite harder than most: a limited account can send to existing contacts and silently fail to reach anyone else. You often will not be told.
What causes it, in order:
- Identical messages to many recipients. The most detectable pattern there is.
- Messaging people with no connection to you at speed. Especially accounts harvested from a group's member list, which is the thing most Telegram tools sell.
- Links in first contact. Send them after a reply.
- New account, high volume. The combination, more than either alone.
The practical rule is the same one that governs the message quality: if a stranger receiving it would feel scraped, the message is both less likely to be answered and more likely to be reported, and those are the same judgement being made twice.
Finding the right person
The route that works starts from the company, not from a member list. Find who the people are from the company's public accounts, search their handles on Telegram, then verify you have the right account rather than a namesake with the same username. We wrote the full seven-step version of this up separately, because it is the part with the most ways to get it wrong.
Group member lists are the tempting shortcut and they are how accounts get limited. Being in a project's community group says nothing about whether somebody works there.
Volume, honestly
Ten to twenty genuinely researched first messages a day from an established personal account is sustainable. That is a real number and it is much lower than what tooling in this space advertises.
The reason to accept it: the channel's advantage is that the inbox is empty, and the only way the inbox stays empty is that nobody can flood it. A strategy that depends on flooding it is spending the thing that makes the channel worth using.
Questions people actually ask
Is Telegram outreach allowed?
Messaging people is allowed. What gets accounts limited is the pattern: identical text at volume, messaging scraped group members, and links to strangers. Telegram acts on reports and its limits are often silent, so you can be restricted without being told.
How many Telegram messages can I send a day?
For cold first contact from an established personal account, ten to twenty researched messages a day is sustainable. New accounts should do far less. There is no published cold outreach cap, because the constraint is reports rather than a counter.
Is Telegram better than email for agencies?
For crypto, gaming, creator and founder-led companies, usually yes, because the inbox is emptier and replies come within hours. For enterprise and regulated industries, no. Email is the only channel that reaches those buyers.
How do I find a company's Telegram?
Start from the company's public accounts, work out who the people are, search their handles, then verify the match. Do not pull names from a project's community group; membership is not employment, and harvesting member lists is what gets accounts limited.
Try Coldpitch and skip the manual part
It finds the accounts worth writing to, spots the weak point, digs out who to talk to on Telegram or X, and writes the first message from what it actually found. Less work than doing this by hand, and better leads at the end of it.
